Any.DO is a very simple, light-weight task management app which packs a heavy punch when it comes to its usability and ease of use. Judging from its user interface, this mobile app may look uncomplicated but it is very efficient at what it does; in fact, once you install it, you will be using it so much that you will be wondering why it did not come bundled with your mobile device in the first place.

This app sports a very straightforward user interface. At the very top is a textbox with a microphone icon on the left and the Any.DO logo on the right with a plus sign. Tasks can be created by either manually typing it in the text box or by voice input using the microphone icon. The task will then be added to the task list.

Running the app for the first time, the task list initially displays items sorted by day. This view shows tasks categorized like so: Today, Tomorrow, Next Week, and Later. The view could be changed to display items sorted by Folder (Personal, Work), or by Priority (Urgent, No Rush). Any.DO also uses predictive text input available, letting the user create tasks faster.

The user interface uses very readable blue fonts over white; though the background can be changed to black for a classier look and feel.

A good feature of the app is that it allows the use of swipe gestures. Swipe a task to from right to left and the task item is displayed with a strikethrough line marking it as having been completed. The task then is displayed at the lower part of its folder or category beneath other pending items. To undo this, simply swipe it again but this time from left to right. To delete a completed task, click on the delete icon provided. A great way to delete all completed tasks is by shaking the phone.

Setting priorities, creating custom folders, letting the app alert you with reminders, and adding notes to tasks are all great features included in this mobile software. A notable functionality is the ability to allow others to collaborate on a task even if they don’t have the app installed on their mobile.

In addition, the app is able to sync to Google Tasks as well as being able to back up the data for security purposes. Future versions of the app will let it sync to Outlook, Remember the Milk, Google Calendar and many others.
